Long Plus in Masoretic Version of Jeremiah

52:27b So Judah went into exile out of its land. 28 This is the number of the people whom Nebuchadrezzar took into exile: in the seventh year, three thousand twenty-three Judeans; 29 in the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar he took into exile from Jerusalem eight hundred thirty-two persons; 30 in the twenty-third year of Nebuchadrezzar, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took into exile of the Judeans seven hundred forty-five persons; all the persons were four thousand six hundred.

The account of the fall of Jerusalem in Jer 52 is, in the main, adapted from 2 Kgs 25. However, whereas Jer 52 does not contain the material in 2 Kgs 25:22-26 concerning Gedaliah, the MT plus 52:27b-30 is not reflected in 2 Kgs 25.[1] See Comparison of the Accounts of the Fall of Jerusalem for other variations.

[1] For the potential significance, of the number of Babylonian exiles in the plus 52:27b-30 MT, to the editorial perspective being Babylonian in orientation, see J. Hays, 146-47.
